1988 Audi 5000S Running problem

It didn't do this when I pulled the car into the garage a couple days before. The car will start with some effort, then idle... but touching the throttle makes it sputter and die. If you watch the rubber intake boot in the under hood scene you'll see it expand a bit when the engine misfires, like it shot exhaust out the intake! The tach is not working correctly, which is why it doesn't go to 0 when the motor stalls.
